Blog Tour: A Shore Thing by Portia Macintosh

It's survival of the fittest!

From the moment Cleo met Lockie, her infuriatingly charming co-casting producer on hit reality show Welcome to Singledom, he’s been getting under her skin. Their job? Casting singles for the ultimate island romance. Their problem? They can’t agree on anything.

Now, the cameras are ready to roll, and the contestants—well, most of them—are en route. But when the threat of a tropical storm delays half the cast, launch night turns into a total disaster. With no Plan B, Cleo and Lockie are forced to step in as contestants. Just for 24 hours until the real stars arrive.

Simple, right? Except tensions are sky-high and sparks are flying for all the wrong reasons! All they have to do is couple-up and get voted off - but there’s a storm coming, so leaving the island might not be so easy. Cleo’s used to pulling strings behind the scenes, not falling headfirst into the drama.

But when the cameras stop rolling, will their fake fling fade with the credits—or could it be Cleo’s most unexpected plot twist yet?

Review

Sometimes, a book really hits the spot.

I resonate a little too strongly with Cleo, who is feeling very old and very single, despite - or perhaps because of her job casting singles for a long-running reality dating show. With falling ratings, her boss brings in Lockie. He's hot, full of fresh ideas, and he pushes every one of Cleo's buttons, good and bad. One thing leads to another, and next thing you know, Cleo is on screen in a tiny bikini, pretending to fall for Lockie to keep the cameras rolling.

And then the storm hits.

My favourite part of the book was definitely their time on the island. I found it totally believable that the circumstances would turbocharge relationship building and I enjoyed the other contestants evolving from deliberate caricatures to individuals realising it's okay to put down the mask. In a story set somewhat behind the curtain, it was nice to see what happens when the cameras stop rolling. It gave me hope that Cleo and Lockie fit well together, even once the outside world forces its way back in.

I did see the third act coming and while I wouldn't call myself vindictive, I do wish for a bit more grovelling, a bit more comeuppance where comeuppance is due. Now I can't imagine I'd ever enjoy getting stranded on an island, but a love story like Cleo and Lockie's would make it all worthwhile.

If you're looking for some delicious 'reality' show goodness, this book might be for you!

Blog Tour: My Rock Star Neighbor by Kathy Strobos

When a wary rock star and a cynical reporter fake date to bury a scandalous rumor, will true love be exposed as the real story?

Nick: I do my best songwriting while playing my guitar on the fire escape. Unfortunately, my in-bed-at-ten next-door neighbor, Maddie, is not a fan of my music. She clambers out on the fire escape to yell at me about making "noise.”  In bunny slippers, no less. But then she trips and falls into my arms.

That photo of Maddie plastered all over me hits the papers, just as my dream recording company wants to sign my band. Which is a problem, because an obsessed fan is claiming that I’m her boyfriend and now the media is blowing up that I’m two-timing them both. Good-bye recording contract, unless…

Maddie: I’m supposed to cover the story. Not be the story! But when Nick begs me to fake date, I can’t resist the chance to be Nick’s girlfriend—even if fake—the opposite of my life as a city desk reporter. But my ex said I’m a terrible kisser, and there’s no way I want Mr. Hot Rock Star saying the same thing. Hence, clause 11 in our contract: There will be absolutely no physical contact.

Nick: When Maddie receives a threatening photo of the two of us with an X over her face, my desire to protect her suddenly feels all too real. It’s either a troll or her undercover investigation has been compromised. With both our careers at stake, is breaking up the only way to keep Maddie safe?

Review

I stayed up far too late reading this because I just couldn't put it down!

It starts innocently enough - a classic, implausible scenario leading to a fake relationship. And yet, it quickly reveals itself as so much more. Firstly and unusually for fake relationships, Maddie and Nick are already friends - if you can call ongoing friction over late night practice sessions 'friends'. They already know each other, giving their romance - both fake and real - additional layers, even as they grew closer. Second, Maddie's a reporter on the trail of a story about city corruption - and this addition had me hooked. It was a delight to see Nick and Maddie develop feelings as they interviewed public servants and hid behind dumpsters, rather than the usual public galas. It was woven together so well and helped their relationship grow in a wonderfully natural way, helped of course by a veritable legion of matchmaking friends.

Not only was I impressed by how the author made a compelling story about municipal corruption and handyman kickbacks, but she creates an incredible sense of place. I have no doubt that were I to go to New York City, I could walk in Nick and Maddie's footsteps

Fiction is meant to be fun, and let me tell you, this book delivered! For a delightful romance driven by a genuinely intriguing mystery, check out My Rock Star Neighbour.

Publication Day Push: Be Our Ghost by Carla Luna

The only thing scarier than ghosts is falling in love.

Knox McIntyre has mastered the art of avoiding drama, especially the romantic kind. Ever since his screenwriting career went up in flames, the grumpy bartender has kept his past buried and his heart off-limits. But when a paranormal reality show sets its sights on the boutique hotel where he works, he gets roped into the production—and partnered with the one woman who just might unravel him.

Charlotte “Charlie” Fraser is the Duchess Hotel’s sunny front office manager, a hopeless romantic with a weakness for happy endings and broody bartenders. After months of pining for Knox, she’s finally ready to act—even if it means battling her inner scaredy-cat by helping him bring a ghost-hunting show to the hotel this Halloween.

As Knox and Charlie dig into the hotel’s chilling past, they find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other. Every lingering look, near kiss, and shared secret brings them closer to something real. But unless they can summon the courage to face their feelings head-on, their love doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Review

A haunted hotel, a bartender with a secret past, and the living embodiment of sunshine at the front desk: a delicious combination from the pen of Carla Luna! I absolutely devoured this steamy slow burn from start to finish. Yes, I'm a little biased because I spent a year living in Victoria, but the heart of this romance is the characters - specifically, Knox and Charlie.

I loved Knox and Charlie. Yes, they've spent the last few years secretly pining for each other, too chicken to take a chance, but they get better. Lots better. I especially liked how they actually communicated with each other through the ups and downs, and even when they made mistakes and faced conflict, they hashed it out like adults. There was just the perfect balance of external plot conflict (the hotel), external relational conflict (Knox’s past, Charlie’s parents), and internal relational conflict (just kiss already!). The ending was so incredibly satisfying on all fronts. Also, despite not being a focus I couldn't help but notice that all the food was lovingly described throughout the story.

This is second in the series about the Damsels of the Duchess Hotel and I can't wait to read more about them!

Blog Tour: A New Hope in the Highlands by Rachel Debreve

Amid betrayal and family secrets, a journey to the Scottish Highlands brings unexpected romance, healing, and a second chance at happiness.

Scarlett flees to the Scottish Highlands on her 35th birthday after discovering her husband's affair. Desperate for a fresh start, she seeks comfort with her estranged mother at the estate of the surly, yet rather attractive bachelor, Edward Cameron-Reid; a reclusive laird devoted to his family’s legacy.

As Scarlett disrupts Edward's solitary life, an inescapable chemistry sparks between them amid the estate’s last-minute preparations for his brother's wedding. However, their growing connection faces turmoil when shocking secrets and hidden motives surface, threatening not only the wedding but their blossoming romance.

Will the drama keep Scarlett and Edward apart? Can they overcome their fears and confront their true feelings for each other? Or will they discover that even after heartbreak, love has the power to offer a second chance?

A dual-narrative, spicy contemporary romance set in the Highlands of Scotland, for fans of Elliot Fletcher and Evie Alexander.

Review

Poor Scarlett learns her comfortable marriage is already over and flees her husband and his overbearing mother to reconnect with her estranged mother in the middle of nowhere - sorry, the Scottish Highlands. Fortunately, her mum's employer (and now Scarlett's) is rather handsome and Scarlett starts to settle in and heal - until Edward's brother's last minute wedding brings chaos and a whole cast of larger than life characters to their door. Scarlett's satisfying competence (and isn't it wonderful to have a heroine get to do the thing she's good at?) and newfound independence is put to the test.

Scarlett is vibrantly alive, full of conflict, self doubt, and a quiet ambition. I do need to warn that there is an attempted sexual assault depicted in a flashback. Though it isn't successful, there are no real repercussions, so be aware going in.

Though the drama is delicious and the spice (once it gets started) is plentiful, the book is carried by the tumultuous relationships - familial, platonic, and romantic. Family is reconciled, and families are divided - and if you want to know more you're going to have to read it! I especially liked that both leads were a little bit older, though Edward's ex and daughter could've played more of a part, rather than his wayward brother and his enigmatic fiancée. Even by the end, you're not sure if everyone has a happy ending but they do all get what they deserve!

It's a steamy romp through the Scottish Highlands and it's going to make you wish for a laird and a castle of your own!

Review: Give Me a Reason by Jayci Lee

After a run of science fiction, fantasy, and horror reading that leaned towards the dark and dystopian, a modern-day Korean retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion felt like the perfect palate cleanser.

Anne Lee broke Fredrick Nam's heart when she left America to become a K-drama actress. It's ten years later when she returns, only to find the boy she left behind is a man she can't get out of her head.

I'll be honest, the plot of Persuasion is not one I remember well. but a skim of the plot shows that this book is more faithful than I initially thought. Nonetheless, the setting update to modern-day LA and the tweaks to various characters serve to disguise the inspiration quite handily.

Apart from the events of ten years ago and a shared inability to spit it out, both Anne and Fredrick seem almost too good to be true - a self-sacrificing K-drama star and a respected firefighting captain. Their chemistry is sparking from the first page and I couldn't wait for them to fall into each other's arms.

I personally found the Korean-American update really effective in explaining some of the dynamics between characters and I enjoyed Anne's journey out of self-denial, but I do wish this got a bit more of a conclusion and perhaps something more satisfying around her more selfish family members. I also loved the delicious pining in this book as both Anne and Fredrick realise that beneath the hurt, regret, and anger, love remains - but the tension seemed to melt away partway through in favour of a persistent misunderstanding that just got frustrating and seemed to be resolved in-story by a deus ex.

I couldn't put this book down and was rooting for the happy ending, but I can't help but wish for a little more out of the ending.

If Austen retellings or second chance romances are your jam, I think you'll enjoy this as much as I did.

Review: Wildflowers by Kylie Scott

Once again, Kylie Scott - first known to me as author of the excellent Stage Dive rock star romances - has spun the genre wheel of fortune and somehow I'm reading a post-apocalyptic romance. And I'm digging it. This is fluffy cracky wish fulfillment that I ate up with a spoon and it all starts when Astrid is kidnapped by her hot neighbour Dean.

Hear me out.

Dean has word of another pandemic, only this one is far more infectious and a lot more deadly. Thanks to his enforced isolation, him and Astrid survive and set out to build a new life from the ruins of the old. Yes, the premise is traumatic and has shades of dubcon, but there's something intoxicating about a man who risks everything for you specifically, and the chance to start the world anew in a tight knit community based on mutual aid.

Some people might find this story triggering, some might quibble with the romance - but for some, this is going to hit the spot as a cathartic and surprisingly lighthearted take on the end of the world as we know it.

If this sounds like your catnip, Wildflowers is available in now

Review: Text Appeal by Kylie Scott

Update: check out the gorgeous new cover!

Text Appeal is classic Kylie Scott. Riley is new to town, but she's barely settled in when hew new phone number puts her right in the path of its old owner. Connor has had enough of his on-again, off-again ex and she's coming back for their high school reunion, so he enlists Riley in a scheme to convince the town that the relationship is through, by claiming he's fallen madly in love with Riley. Of course, feelings ensue, as parents choose sides and what seems like the entire town get hilariously invested.

Somewhat surprisingly for a book with an ex-girlfriend, Ava manages to become my favourite character. It becomes obvious their relationship was toxic not from lack of love, but from two people who want vastly different things - and part of me wants the story where they manage to work through that. This is not that story but Ava manages to charm me just the same. In fact, this entire book is full of people I would want to hang out with, especially Connor's sneaky grandma!

Overall, this was an enjoyable, low stakes romance, with attractive and likeable leads. If you've enjoyed Kylie's recent books, this will feel like a warm hug.

Review: Can't Help Falling in Love by Sophie Sullivan

This is a surprisingly emotional fake relationship romance that also deals with themes of grief, family, and the weight of expectations.

Lexi's life took a turn for the dramatic a few years ago and she feels like she's barely holding it together as she scrambles to take care of a grieving mom, an aging house, an almost there degree, all while juggling two jobs. She is full of grit and determination, but her self esteem is at an all time low, and at the ripe old age of 25 she feels like life has passed her by.

If that sounds a little ridiculous to you, you're not alone, but push through and you remember how overwhelming it all felt to be mid twenties when it looked like everyone else has their life together. Once you slip back into that mindset, this book comes together like a comfortable old friend.

We have a handsome hero, his pushy parents, his meddling siblings, and supportive friends on both sides. We have lies and half truths and the (somewhat) slowly dawning realisation that this fake relationship doesn't feel that fake. We have a heroine who rescues herself and the man who gives her the push to do so. (We also have a bit of insta love, some loose plot ends, one glaring continuity error, and a boatload of sage wisdom just when Lexi needs it most)

If you enjoy fake relationships with just a little more emotional heft, I think you'll like this book. I know I did!

Review: The Sundered Realms by Casey Blair

I just want to wrap myself up in this story and squee.

Now, I don't think I would want to live in the world of the Sundered Realms - it's post-magical apocalypse, where the many realms have been sundered into separate dimensions and demons live in the in-between void. But I enjoyed this book from practically the first page.

Our heroine Liris is a compelling blend of beautifully educated and extremely sheltered. She once made the mistake of advocating for change, and as a result has been trapped forever training as an ambassador-spy while her peers and juniors are sent out on assignment. Her superpower is her mind - pattern recognition and language learning - rather than a secret power from mysterious magical heritage. I loved that her training allows her (and by extension, us the reader) to understand the nuances behind every minuscule action and word choice, adding a depth and richness to every interaction.

The hero is a little more enigmatic - Lord Vhannor is rich, powerful, and a perfect complement to Liris. In fact, the book is stuffed with interesting side characters and I'm deeply hopeful that we will get to see more of each of them - even the villain!

Overall, I really enjoyed a story that celebrated scholarship in a fast-paced quest through the realms to stop demons from destroying everything. I'd knock a half-star off for a climax stuffed with magibabble that got a little hard to follow, but I'll definitely be looking out for the next one!

The Sundered Realms is available now!

Blog Tour: Love to Hate You by Camilla Isley

Goodbye New York! Hello… Cowboy?

If Samantha’s Baker’s life were as simple as one of the movies she produces, when she – a latte-loving city girl - gets banished to the country and fights with the local hunk cowboy soon afterwards they’d fall in love. But everyone knows the movies aren’t real life! (And just FYI, Mr Cowboy, it’s not gonna happen!)

Travis Hunt knows what it’s like to miss the city. He’s given up everything to take over the family ranch and become mayor of Emerald Creek. He has responsibilities. But how does he convince a gorgeous, hot-shot executive like Samantha to swap her stilettos for cowboy boots and her Friday night cocktails for country dance competitions? Small town life just can’t compete with all the hustle and bustle of New York City.

But what if it’s not where you are that you call home… What if it’s who you find while you’re there?

Blog Tour: Stage Kisses on Halfpenny Lane by Clodagh Murphy

Two old flames. One small stage. Trouble is just waiting in the wings …

Mimi and her sisters are still struggling to keep their beloved Halfpenny Lane Theatre afloat.

So when Hollywood heartthrob Rocco Agnew wants a part in their upcoming production of Private Lives it promises to be a lifesaver. Rocco sets hearts racing and ticket sales soaring wherever he goes.

The only problem: Rocco is Mimi’s ex – the one who broke her heart – and she’s slated to play
opposite him in a role that will bring them far too close for comfort.

They can’t turn down Rocco. Mimi doesn’t want to bow out. Will the little theatre be big enough for both of them?

This is the second book in the Halfpenny Lane series, but it is a complete story and can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Review

Sweet and funny, this second chance romance was a fun read. It’s second in a series about three sisters who own a rundown theatre in Dublin. They are putting on a play and an unexpected choice of leading man is great publicity for the show but personally troubling for the leading lady. Mimi never got over her first love Rocco when he moved to LA in search of fame and fortune. Now he’s back and looking like he regrets losing her just as much.

I really liked Mimi - she was self-aware enough to know when she wasn’t being fair, but flawed enough to make some poor decisions anyway. I did get impatient with her Sam storyline but it made me like him more as a character (which is good because I suspect he’s going to lead the next book). Rocco was a bit more of an enigma but sharp-eyed Mimi noticed enough to let us know what he’s thinking even if she can’t put the votes together.

The rehearsal process and attendant cast shenanigans were a nice look behind the curtain and introduced some interesting characters who I’d like to see more of.

Overall the book was light and funny, so if you like second chances of live theatre, give it a go!

Review

The Love Theorem is a cute, funny romance about the scientist next door and the guy on the screen. Though they're not perfect - Lana is stubborn and her cheating ex has made her paranoid, Christian means well but stardom means he sometimes loses touch with reality - I thoroughly enjoyed these two falling in love and finding a balance that works for them.

I would've loved to see more of the background characters, and I'm glad to see some of them are getting their own books. I'm interested in seeing how Summer and Winter (Lana's childhood best friends) shake out going forward, given Summer kickstarted the plot by having an affair with Lana's boyfriend. Most of all, I'd like to see Penny (Christian's assistant) get a happy ending because she is hands down the most sensible person in this book.

It's a bit cheesy and full of wish fulfillment but reading this book made me happy. Also, Lana's passion for women in STEM is simply awesome. If you want a feel good Cinderella-style rom-com that swings between the wilds of academia and Hollywood luxury, please give this book a go!

Review

A sweet romance and a belated coming of age   - I really enjoyed this book! It ties in with the previous book in the series but stands well alone, though you likely will be seeking the others as Catherine Tinley's writing is delightful.

Poor Max does not come across as a hedonistic layabout, but a lifetime has convinced him that he is useless. This is his coming of age as he seeks to shed his ennui and do something useful with his life. I especially liked that he grew because it was the right thing to do, not merely to win Eilidh over. Having said that, he is easy to like and I can understand why Eilidh falls for him. I would've liked Eilidh to have a bit more of an arc but that is a minor point.

It's a feel good Scottish Regency romance that doesn't shy away from the lasting damage caused by the English - but reminds you that it's not what your ancestors did but what you do now that matters.

Blog Tour: Troy Story by Carla Luna

The friendship that launched a thousand adventures is about to embark on the greatest one of all…

Ever since Stuart Carlson and Dusty Danforth met as kids on a dig in Egypt, they’ve been best friends, supporting each other through heartaches, triumphs, and countless archaeological expeditions. So when Stuart gets hired to help run the American excavations at Troy, he asks Dusty to join him as the site illustrator.

For Dusty, the Troy project isn’t just another adventure. It’s the chance to tell Stuart how she really feels. After years of pining for him, she’s ready for more than friendship.

But soon after they arrive at the site in Turkey, they’re caught up in a feud with a group of German archaeologists. While both teams are eager to make a major find, Stuart’s boss is so determined to beat his rivals that he’s willing to break a few rules. Or laws.

As Stuart and Dusty work together to keep the dig on track, they give in to the passion that’s been simmering under the surface. But will their romance survive when their boss’s scheme puts the entire project in jeopardy?

Review

Carla Luna continues to impress with another wonderfully  written romance with a bit of spice and minimal angst. Her knowledge of archaeology shines as she reminds us of the most cutthroat of battlefields: academia. From the hallowed halls of learning to a dig site in Turkey, the quest for recognition seems more trouble than it’s worth!

Dusty Danforth can’t settle on a thesis topic or keep a lid on her temper, and she is still trying to get out from the shadow of her intimidatingly successful mother. I might sign at her choices when she flies off the handle (even though I completely understand why) but she always has a good heart and definitely keeps things interesting!

Poor sweet Stuart is doing his best but when caught between a shady dig director and his burgeoning academic career, he isn’t sure where to turn, making him very relatable. Being together honestly causes Dusty and Stuart to make worse choices until they learn how to make each other better.

The background characters were great - I liked that all of the on page women were different and it worked for them, and that the petty rivalries and jealousy were on the whole worked out so the girls really banded together. I’m especially glad to see that Emilia and TJ are in line for the next book!

If you love archaeology, romances with a setting outside the usual, or characters with jobs that matter to them, please pick up this book!

Blog Tour: Spin the Bottle by Isabella May

CELESTE thought she had long forgotten the sweet, citrusy kiss she shared with TRAVIS during a game of spin the bottle. Splitting her time between her accounts office in super Instagrammable Notting Hill, and her tiny apartment in quirky Exmouth Market, modern-day life is simply too busy for men. Besides, whenever she tries to find The One, it always ends in disaster. From Tinder tragedies to trampolining tribulations, Celeste is starting to think that she's cursed.

But then Travis begins to pop up wherever she goes, and Celeste knows with stomach-sinking clarity that fate has finally caught up with them. Inspired by the idea of fake dating, Celeste is convinced the only way out of this mess is to call the curse's bluff. But will Travis agree to it? And how can she manage not to fall in love?

Pour yourself a lemonade and escape with this gorgeous will-they-won't-they rom-com set between London and Gibraltar!

Review

Celeste is cursed. Every quirky date she plans goes hilariously, hopelessly wrong. Her so-called best friend Mel thinks she's being over dramatic but Celeste can't let go of a teenage kiss and an old lady's prophecy, especially when the subject of both keeps popping up at every turn. Travis thinks she's crazy when she suggests fake dating to break the curse, but how long will it stay fake?

There's something sugary sweet and sometimes spicy about this book. Disastrous dates aside, Celeste is living a charmed life, right until Travis stumbled back into it. While initial meetings are not promising, there is a ton of UST just simmering under the surface. It makes me wonder if Celeste and Travis would've gotten together faster without the curse hanging over their heads.

Nevertheless, the banter is witty, the romance is lively and light, and there's just a hint of the supernatural. For a fan of fake dating, unique date ideas, and lemons, this book will tickle your fancy.

Review

Shari Low has a lovely gift for telling several overlapping stories, making you fall in love with multiple characters as their lives intersect in unexpected ways. The intersection of the four narrators - Brenda, her daughter Zara, Eileen, and her son Aiden - are only unexpected to some of them, because Zara, her sister Millie, and Aiden are conspiring to reunite their respective parents in Vegas.

With little hints from Brenda and Eileen's narration, the celebration of a lifetime is like a train wreck in slow motion, with every encounter sending dreams of happily ever after closer to the edge. From Aiden scheming to get his divorced parents both to Vegas, to the explosive reunion of the older generation, you simply have to keep reading to find out if Brenda and Colin make it to renew their vows, or if this last surprise is the straw that breaks Brenda's ever-patient back. And after so much build up, I would've enjoyed more on-page denouement of everyone in the aftermath.

I don't want to spoil the story because the twists make it fun, but there are happy endings and maybe a few more chances for the author to work her magic on loose ends.

Perfect for an escape from reality but don't start when you have somewhere else to be!

Blog Tour: The Viscount’s Daring Miss by Lotte James

May the best Viscount or Miss…

 …win!

When her best friend and employer is injured, groom Roberta ‘Bobby’ Kingsley feels compelled to help him. She agrees to step into the saddle and compete in an endurance horse race to help secure his ancestral home. Yet the minute Bobby comes face to face with her opponent—arrogant yet infuriatingly charismatic Lawrence, Viscount Hayes—it’s clear that it won’t just be the competition that has her heart racing!

Review

A thrilling endurance race is overshadowed by the riders and the sparks between them!

This was such a fun book! Bobby and Lawrence felt real people, with their own traits and flaws. It was surprising to see how quickly things started heating up, but it allowed them almost the entire race to fall for one another properly. I enjoyed how the insults turned into banter turned into more emotional and vulnerable confessions, even though the competition never let up!

Bobby faces period-appropriate sexism so it's not all cheers and banter, and the way she reacts is totally understandable even though it's not ideal. I liked that the book acknowledged and addressed this, while still giving a satisfying and realistic ending. Lawrence isn't perfect either, but it's made clear that as a man his eccentricities are tolerated by society so it takes someone slightly outside the bounds - like Bobby - to make him see the need for change.

It's interesting that the circumstances leading to the rivalry and the race - the age-old bet and the mounting debt - are never fleshed out, leaving the reader to wonder who was more in the right. Perhaps we'll be lucky and get to find out in Julian's story - because that man needs a good woman to take him in hand!

For everyone who felt like they didn't fit in, who finds happiness somewhere unexpected, or who just really likes horses - I recommend this romance!

Blog Tour: An Unexpected Guest by Hannah Ellis

A family reunion takes everyone by surprise…

Jago Treneary hasn’t been home since his father’s funeral three years ago. Now, he’s returning to the Isles of Scilly for his brother’s wedding and is intent on building bridges with his family.

When a last-minute guest arrives to stay at his mum’s house, the trip takes an unexpected turn.

Soon, he’s playing tour guide for Sylvie and rediscovering the beautiful islands he grew up on.

He never expected to feel so at home.

But with his attention on Sylvie he neglects his family.

Before long he’s faced with a choice: follow his heart and see where things lead with Sylvie, or put the work into making things right with his family.

One thing seems certain: he can’t have it all.

With his time on Scilly coming to end, he needs to make some big decisions… fast.

Review

Jago Treneary is the mystery Treneary brother. All of his brothers got some early bird page time but all we know about Jago is that he's been in America for the last four books and he and older brother Lowen had a somewhat fractious relationship growing up. Now it's finally time for Jago take the spotlight and it feels the most weighty because Lowen's happily ever after is coming apart at the seams.

I really felt for Jago and Sylvie. A chance meeting sets them up with someone who could be the one, only they both have family issues to resolve and it happens to be the same family, because Jago's brother Lowen is Sylvie's cousin by his birth mother. Don't worry, there's nothing squicky, but one person is uncomfortable and I'll give you no prize for guessing who.

If it wasn't for the family drama it would be a very straightforward boy meets girl. It sometimes felt like their relationship was simplified to make sure the series was tied up well. This meant that I didn't get a good grasp of Jago and Sylvie as people, but I honestly prefer it to the alternative where a series doesn't get a good ending.

Best enjoyed as the end of the series, especially after reading Lowen's book, though it can stand okay on its own. I know this is the last book about the Treneary boys and that makes me sad, because I'd love to see them live the success they've built, which is how you know it was a lovely ending.  Once again, we're left with a heartfelt story about the importance of family and the reminder that very little is absolutely good or bad when you look at it from someone else's perspective.

Review

Feeling tired? Sad? Weighed down? This book is a soothing later-in-life romance set in a charming little coastal town. Yes, it's fifth in the series and chock-full of side characters who have already found their happily ever after, but the focus doesn't waver from Bev and Iain, along with their close family.

It's refreshing to read about two older leads who have led very different lives with griefs and joys of their own. Bev is happy in her solitary life, though the past carries pain that is brought to the surface just before Iain comes to town with his bereaved son and granddaughter. As Bev takes steps to expand her business and open her heart, Iain and his family begin to settle in a new life and put down roots.

It's touching, heartwarming, and a much needed moment of calm.
