Sometimes a book hits all the right notes.
Private Devotions is a gorgeous rockstar romance about a songwriter and his PR agent. It's dual POV and interspersed with lyrics that tug at the heartstrings. Fair warning, this book is a serious slow burn, and Hanna spends a significant portion of the book in a toxic relationship with someone else. If either of those facts give you pause, this may not be the book for you - but if they pique your interest, read on!
I especially loved the deepening of the friendship between Hanna and Nathaniel. Nathaniel's fish-out-of-water status in the UK and Hanna's down-to-earth problem solving meet in charming and believable ways, even as Nathaniel's reticence and Hanna's insecurities keep them apart. As much as I didn't agree with all of their choices, I understood them and by the end I was not only invested in them as a couple, but believed in their happy ending.
Honestly, if I had one gripe, it's that I wanted just a little bit more at the end. A bit more of the public reaction, a bit more of Nathaniel's bandmates, a bit more time with this couple that I spent so long rooting for. I've never read Olivia Lockhart's books before, but if this is typical of their quality then I'll have to check more out!
