Review
This is an absorbing romance about two outsiders learning how to be vulnerable and kind to each other when the world has taught them otherwise. Erik is head over heels for Brynhild but she is determined to push him away before he can break her heart (again). Their quest to save Brynhild's sister gives them space to come to peace with the hurts of their past and realise that the future they thought they wanted is so much less that the one that is there for the taking.
The world they live in is harsh and unforgiving to anyone on the fringes. It makes it even more satisfying when Brynhild and Erik learn to show empathy for themselves and even to (spoilers).
There's a definitely lead-in to the next book and I'm interested to see how Lucy Morris pulls it off!
